Support for Disaster Prevention and Reconstruction

Cooperation in Disaster Prevention with Local Communities

If a disaster occurs, the company considers things like the provision of its organizational capabilities, materials, equipment and technology, rescue activities by employees, and the opening of company-owned facilities as temporary shelters, and promotes activities to build disaster-resistant areas in cooperation with local communities. In 2021, we signed a disaster prevention agreement with Ogaki City in Gifu Prefecture, where our head office is located, so that local residents of Ogaki City can use the cafeteria at our head office if there is a shortage of disaster evacuation sites.

Support for Disaster Reconstruction

If a large-scale disaster occurs in Japan or overseas, the company collects donations from employees and makes donations to help those affected. In recent years, we have donated to areas affected by heavy rain in Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyushu in 2017, the Taiwan earthquake and heavy rain in western Japan in 2018, typhoon 19 in the Tohoku region in 2019, and heavy rain in the Hida region in July 2020.

Biodiversity

Pacific Satoyama Woodland

The Pacific Industries Group has signed a “Forest Creation in Collaboration with Companies” agreement with Gifu Prefecture and Ogaki City and is promoting satoyama-making activities at “Pacific Satoyama Woodland” in Kamiishizu Town, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture.
This activity was initially a ten-year plan that started in February 2009 to promote comprehensive satoyama development together with the region, including forest maintenance to protect the region’s safe, secure, and abundant living spaces, and the promotion of forest environmental education using satoyama. We extended the plan for a further ten years to 2029 in March 2019.
“Pacific Satoyama Woodland” is used as a place for forest environmental education and volunteer activities, and provides opportunities for people participating in these activities to learn about the relationship between people and nature, to raise awareness of recycling-oriented society and to deepen their understanding of forest and environmental issues.A total of 3,800 people participated in the projects with 1,665 trees planted to date.

“Pacific Satoyama Woodland” is divided roughly into two areas.
One is the “tree planting area,” where we plant trees such as oak and chestnut, which are deciduous broad-leaved trees that represent Japanese satoyama, and beautiful wild mountain cherry trees that decorate the satoyama, in consideration of the function and landscape of the satoyama.
The other is the “nursery area,” which carries out forest maintenance such as clearing, thinning, weeding and trail maintenance, and maintenance of the forest environmental education field.
